Let Me Tell You a Bit About Myself
Welcome, and well done for taking the step to contact me. For most people, it can be quite frightening walking through a therapist's door for the first time — I certainly remember the feeling.
If you are feeling lost, struggling, overwhelmed, or currently facing a painfully difficult time, I can help. Experiencing emotional pain and struggling with life issues are part of the process of living, but for many this is a very overwhelming feeling, and coping for some becomes quite difficult. Yet when we find ourselves stuck in patterns, situations, or relationships that continue to be painful, we ask: 'Why can't things be better?' or 'What is wrong with me?' and eventually 'Can I ever feel happy?' Often these are the issues that propel us to seek therapy.
From personal experience, I can clearly identify with these thoughts — and I also know that change is possible. But you have to be prepared to work on yourself.
My whole life has involved studying and working in the area of physical and mental health. I started my career as a nurse, working in both general and psychiatric settings. This foundation gave me a deep understanding of the complexities of mental health and the importance of compassionate care.
I am presently working in private practice and as a health educator with the Irish Red Cross in the community-based health and first aid prison programme. In December 2024, I completed a Level 8 Certificate in Clinical Work with Substance-Using Clients — I very much enjoy working with clients in the field of addiction.
My core belief is that what matters most in counselling is the warm, empathetic relational space that I create when working with clients.
