Online counselling is no longer a compromise. For a growing number of clients — shift workers, parents, remote workers, rural clients, and anyone whose energy is already spent — it is simply the format that lets therapy actually happen.

Full-fat therapy, from wherever you are

Every session is a proper 50-minute therapeutic hour — the same warm, unrushed room I hold at the Gorey practice, delivered through a secure, browser-based video link or by telephone. Nothing is downgraded. You have the same IACP accreditation, the same insurance-eligible receipt on request, and the same continuity of care.

Sessions can move between formats without disruption: video most weeks, phone from the car on a busy Tuesday, in person once a month if you are near Gorey. The therapeutic relationship travels with you.

Online and phone counselling has moved from pandemic workaround to first-choice format for most new clients. The reasons are practical: no commute, no waiting rooms, real evening availability, and privacy — you attend from a room you already trust.

Who this suits

Remote & hybrid workers

A private hour between meetings, without the commute back to a clinic.

Parents & carers

Sessions in a nap window, after school runs, or once the house is quiet.

Rural & island clients

Full clinical care regardless of where in Ireland you live.

Shift workers

Genuine evening and early-morning slots outside standard clinic hours.

Irish clients abroad

Continuity of care while travelling for work or study (subject to cover).

Clients low on energy

Grief, burnout, chronic illness — the drive should not be the barrier.

How the first session works

  1. You book a time through the confidential booking wizard, or ring 085 182 1645 for a short first conversation.
  2. You receive a private, encrypted video link (or an agreed call time) and a simple pre-session note by email.
  3. We meet for 50 minutes. No agenda is required — the first session is often mostly listening.
  4. At the end we agree whether to book again, and at what frequency. There is no commitment beyond the session in front of you.

Common questions about online counselling

Is online counselling as effective as in-person therapy?+

For most presentations — anxiety, low mood, grief, work stress, life transitions — the research consistently shows online counselling produces outcomes comparable to in-person therapy. What matters more than the format is the fit with your therapist and your own commitment to the work.

What platform do you use? Do I need to download anything?+

Sessions run on a browser-based, end-to-end encrypted video link. There is nothing to install. You will receive a private link by email before each session, working on laptop, tablet or phone.

What if my internet drops mid-session?+

We agree a phone number at the start so I can call you straight back if the video fails. Lost minutes are added to your session or the next one — never charged.

Can I do phone sessions instead of video?+

Yes. Telephone counselling is a full-fat session — no camera, no download, no self-consciousness. Some clients think best while walking; others prefer a stationary car in a quiet spot. Both work.

Are online sessions confidential?+

Yes. The platform is GDPR-compliant, end-to-end encrypted, and no recordings are made. The only limits are the strict legal ones that apply to all counselling: serious risk to life, safeguarding of a child or vulnerable adult, or a court order.

Can I claim online sessions on my health insurance?+

Many Irish insurers reimburse online counselling with an IACP-accredited therapist on the same basis as in-person sessions. Please check the specifics with your own insurer — a dated receipt is issued for your claim on request.

Do you work with clients outside Ireland?+

I work with clients based in Ireland (including Irish clients temporarily abroad). For cross-border work I confirm that my professional cover extends to your location before we start.
